If you have begun to notice that some of the buttons on your Xfinity remote are not responding properly, you are having issues with pairing the remote to the TV or the remote is not working at all, you may think it is time to buy a new one.
Before you go out and spend the money buying a brand new remote, you should try to do a factory reset first.
A factory reset essentially erases every setting and pairing that you have with the remote and resets it back to the original settings as if you have just taken it out of the box.
Doing a factory reset may sound a lot more complicated than just buying a new remote, but it could save you money and time in the end.
Before Xfinity Remote Reset
Before resetting the remote, check to make sure the batteries are good and the remote does not appear to have any obvious physical damage that could prevent it from working. You can check to make sure the battery is working by pressing a few buttons to see if the LED light glows.
If you don’t see any light from the LED when you press buttons, you should try replacing the batteries first. If that still does not work and it does not look broken, you can try to perform a factory reset.
How to Factory Reset Xfinity Remote?
There are several different models of the Xfinity remote, ranging from the XR1, XR2, XR5 which are older models, to the voice-activated XR11 and XR15.
The first step to start the factory reset process is to identify which remote you have, because the reset process will be slightly different depending on which remote you are resetting.

Resetting xfinity XR11, XR5 or XR2 Remotes
The XR11, XR5 and XR2 have a similar reset process and you can follow the same four steps.
The first thing you need to do is locate the setup button. The button’s location is a little different depending on the remote type, but it should say ‘Setup’ below the button on all of the remotes.
Once you have located the setup button, you need to hold down the setup button while looking at the LED light on the front of the remote. Hold down the button until the LED light changes from red to green. When the light has changed green, you can release the button.
Then you are going to enter the code 9-8-1 while still looking at the LED light. If it flashes green two times, then you were successful in doing Xfinity remote reset.
Once you have successfully done your Xfinity remote reset, you will have to pair it to your devices again. Follow the same steps for pairing that you did when you first purchased the remote.
Resetting xfinity XR15 Remote (Reset Xfinity voice remote)
If you are using the newest model of the Xfinity remote, the XR15, you will notice that it does not have a setup button and you will need to follow different steps to perform a factory reset.
Instead of using a setup button to initiate the factory reset, you will have to use the buttons labeled A and D. The A button is a triangle and the D button is a diamond.
Once you have found the A and D buttons, hold them down at the same time while looking at the LED light at the top of the remote for about 3 seconds. You should notice that the LED light changes from red to green. Once the light changes, release the buttons.
Then you will need to input the code 9-8-1. You should notice that the LED light changes from green to blue. This signifies that the remote has successfully been reset to its original factory settings.
Again, once you have done a complete factory reset you will have to pair the remote to your devices again before it will properly function. You can simply follow the instructions on the original packaging for device pairing.
Ready to Go
